We are pleased to announce that ESA Chairman Chris Shelton, President, AES Energy Storage, has been selected to by Secretary Chu to be a member of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Electricity Advisory Committee (EAC). Additionally, Secretary Chu extended ESA Executive Director Brad Roberts’ term on the Committee for an additional one year term. Roberts has been an active member of the Committee since 2008.
The mission of the EAC is to provide advice to the U.S. Department of Energy in implementing the Energy Policy Act of 2005, executing the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and modernizing the nation’s electricity delivery infrastructure. Since formation in 2008, the EAC has been an excellent forum for leaders in the electrical power industry to meet formally and discuss critical issues that will affect the power grid of the future in the US. The EAC makes recommendations to DOE Senior management about critical needs for the power industry and where resources should be focused to make the grid function at its optimum.
Energy Storage is a critical piece of the future power grid and the EAC has a Storage Subcommittee tasked with providing guidance to DOE regarding the value of storage to grid operations. These appointments will insure the ESA continues to play a very active role in shaping the DOE efforts in energy storage.
