Industry recognition

AES is a pioneer in the commercialization of battery based energy storage for the power system and has been working from the very beginning with leading utilities and power markets to advance the development of a clean, unbreakable grid. In 2007, the company introduced the first grid-connected lithium-ion batteries and in the decade since AES continued with a series of industry firsts, including the first grid battery compensated within a power market (PJM, 2008), the first battery qualified as a generator by FERC (New York, 2009), the first storage private letter ruling to allow it to be paired with renewable generation under the US federal Investment Tax Credit (West Virginia, 2011), the first lithium-ion battery project financed with a power station (Chile, 2012), the first long-term power purchase agreement for a grid battery (California, 2014).

In addition, AES has built the first grid-connected battery in numerous global markets, and constructing the largest in the industry multiple times. AES has been recognized for that leadership role and has received several industry awards, several of which are highlighted below
